Your Eyebrow Transplant Journey
From shaping your brows to placing each graft, every stage is planned around your facial features and natural hair growth.
-
Consultation
Treatment begins with an assessment of your eyebrows, medical history, donor hair and the cause of hair loss. Your goals are discussed to determine whether transplantation is suitable and what result can realistically be achieved.
-
Eyebrow design
Your existing brow shape and facial features are assessed before treatment. The outline, density and areas requiring restoration are planned carefully and discussed with you before proceeding.
-
Donor hair selection
A suitable donor area, usually from the scalp, is selected. Hair thickness, texture and natural curvature are considered to help the transplanted hairs blend naturally with your eyebrows.
-
Graft harvesting
The donor area is treated with local anaesthetic before suitable follicles are carefully harvested and prepared for transplantation. The recommended harvesting method will be explained during treatment planning.
-
Eyebrow graft placement
Individual grafts are placed into carefully created recipient sites, with close attention to the angle, direction, spacing and distribution of each transplanted hair.
-
Aftercare
You can normally return home after the procedure. Your clinical team will explain how to protect the grafts, care for the donor area and manage early recovery.
Surgeon-led Eyebrow Restoration
Dr. Asim Shahmalak has worked in hair transplant surgery for more than 20 years following an earlier career in general surgery within the NHS.
He has also undertaken reconstructive eyebrow, eyelash and facial hair procedures for people affected by serious burns and acid attacks.
Recovery and Eyebrow growth Timeline
Your eyebrow transplant develops gradually, progressing from early healing to new growth and a more defined result.
-
First 48 hours
Initial healing
The eyebrow area may feel sensitive, with some redness, swelling or small crusts. Avoid touching, rubbing or scratching the transplanted grafts.
-
Days 3-10
Gentle cleansing
The treated area begins to settle as healing continues. Follow your washing and aftercare instructions while any crusting gradually clears.
-
Weeks 2-8
Shedding phase
Some transplanted hairs may shed during this period. This can be a normal part of the transplant cycle and does not mean the follicles are lost.
-
Around months 3-4
Early regrowth
New hairs may begin to emerge. Early growth can initially appear fine, uneven or incomplete.
-
Months 6-9
Visible definition
Growth becomes easier to assess as more hairs develop and the eyebrows gain greater density and definition. You need to trim and maintain them regularly to keep their shape.
-
Months 12-18
Mature result
The eyebrows continue to mature. Growth and density vary between patients; your surgeon will advise when the final result can reasonably be assessed.

Frequently asked questions
Successfully transplanted follicles can continue producing hair long-term.
However, no surgeon can guarantee that every graft will survive, or that the appearance will remain exactly the same throughout life.
The transplanted hairs also retain the characteristics of their donor area and require ongoing grooming.
Donor hair is normally selected from a suitable area of the scalp.
The exact location depends on your hair characteristics and the harvesting method planned for your treatment.
There is no single graft number suitable for every eyebrow transplant.
Your requirements depend on:
- Existing eyebrow density
- The size of the area being restored
- Whether one or both brows require treatment
- Your preferred shape
- Hair characteristics
- Available donor follicles
An estimate is provided after examination.
Local anaesthetic is used during the procedure.
You may feel brief discomfort during administration of the anaesthetic and some tenderness or sensitivity during early recovery.
